Good Feet (Go Places)
One Vision's Good Feet (Go Places) gives hope and healing through the gift of shoes and tackles one of the most visible signs of childhood poverty; by building on the truth, we can make an immediate and lasting difference. Our initiative aims to reinforce learning, confidence and compassion.
Good Feet (Go Places) provides new shoes to 4th -12th graders who are experiencing homelessness, poverty or the situational consequences of parental incarceration. Good Feet (Go Places) helps eliminate the barriers to education and youth involved crime and bullying through incentivizing new shoes.
Kids who may be under achieving in school due to circumstances and challenges, not only have an opportunity to achieve better grades but also a new pair of shoes every six months.
While many organizations are focused on the critical needs of food and shelter, school officials have confirmed SHOES are essential for a student to succeed in school. Proper shoes not only empower kids to run free but enables kids to engage peers shame-free and boosts concentration and participation in school and experience less stress.
A good pair of shoes can change a child's future!
Students are required to maintain satisfactory grades or at least a 2.5 GPA to continue to participate in the program. The idea is to provide a need which will serve as a deterrent and allow a child to focus, i.e., incentivizing learning.
One Vision will provide an after school learning engagement which is one on one attention to math, reading and writing to foster maximum potential in the classroom. In addition to, 10th -12th graders are provided ACT/SAT preparation curriculum designed to help students achieve quality scores and for athletes this is key to obtaining academic and sports scholarships. Students are also required to perform community service once a month.
